Overview

Tata has not announced the Punch EV, and everything in this listing is our estimate ahead of launch: pricing, range and the likely variant ladder. The proposition is easy to describe, though. Take the tallest, safest micro-SUV on the market, drop in the motor and battery architecture Tata already uses elsewhere, and you have the cheapest route into an electric SUV in India.

If the numbers land where we expect, the car will be built for the household that already owns a petrol vehicle and wants a second car for the school run and the office commute. A claimed 350 km range would translate to something nearer 240-280 km with the air conditioning in summer, which is comfortable for city weeks and needs planning for festival-long weekends. The torque advantage over the petrol Punch should be immediate: 170 Nm from zero rpm in a car this light changes how it feels in traffic.

The speculative part of the case is the structure and the price. Tata’s crash ratings are the reason to expect the five-star shell to carry over unchanged, but battery packaging usually eats boot space, and we would not assume the petrol car’s 366 litres survives intact. Pricing is the real question: the estimate below sits well below the Nexon EV, and if the gap holds, the Punch EV will take volume from hatchbacks rather than from other electric SUVs.

  • Expected launch in late 2026
  • Claimed 350 km range on estimates
  • Five-star Punch structure underneath

Frequently asked questions

When is the Punch EV expected to launch?

Our current estimate is a late 2026 market entry. Tata has not confirmed the date, and this listing will be updated when it does.

What will the Punch EV cost?

The estimated band here is ₹9.79 lakh to ₹12.49 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi NCR. Treat it as a pre-launch projection rather than an announced price.

What range can buyers expect?

We expect a claimed figure around 350 km. With air conditioning in Indian summer, plan on roughly 240-280 km in everyday use.

Punch EV or Nexon EV?

The Nexon EV has more range, a larger battery and a proven charging story. The Punch EV, if the pricing estimate holds, is the better buy for a city-only second car at noticeably less money.
