What to know about the Dzire
The Dzire is bought for a specific job and it does that job without complaint: carry a family and their luggage economically while keeping the running costs of a small hatchback. The 1.2-litre petrol engine is the familiar 79 bhp unit, unhurried but smooth, and the tall gearing means the engine sits at low revs on expressway runs, which is where the claimed 25 kmpl actually happens.
The trunk is the argument. At 382 litres it will take the luggage for a four-person trip without folding anything, and the rear seat is comfortable for two adults rather than optimistic about three. Equipment has moved with the times too: a large touchscreen, connected services, automatic climate control and six airbags on every variant, which puts it ahead of more than one costlier rival on basic crash kit.
The honest limits are pace and position. With five aboard and the air conditioning running, the Dzire needs planning for a Himalayan-style climb, the automated manual still hesitates when pulling away from a standstill on a camber, and nothing about the driving experience is engaging.
