Overview
The MT-15 V2 is due to return to Indian showrooms late in 2026, and on the evidence of the current R15 the hardware should be recognisable: the same 155cc liquid-cooled variable-valve single, the same frame architecture and a naked handlebar instead of clip-ons. Figures quoted here are carried over from the outgoing model and should be treated as provisional until Yamaha homologates the update.
What a refresh needs to fix is equipment rather than ability. The current bike’s cockpit is the least generous in the segment, the rear suspension is well known to be firm for two-up city work, and the quickshifter that the R15 M carries has never been offered on the naked version. If Yamaha brings the electronics package across, the MT becomes the strongest argument for a bar-mounted 155 over a set of clip-ons.
On paper the case remains simple. It should be a couple of kilograms lighter than the R15, cheaper to buy, and easier to live with in traffic because the riding position is more upright and the levers are less strained. The trade-off is unchanged: 18.4 bhp from a 155cc single demands frequent gear changes, and buyers who ride mostly with a pillion would be better served by a longer-wheelpaced machine.
