Overview
The Gixxer 250 is the most grown-up way to buy 250cc in India, and the least exciting to talk about at tea, which is a fair reflection of its character. The 249cc oil-cooled single does not rev like the KTM and does not pretend to; 22.6 Nm lands in a broad, flat band and the six-speed box is so sweetly shifted that the rider stays in too-high gears happily. That is the entire argument, and it is a good one.
Where that pays out is the everyday envelope. The riding position is upright, the seat is flat and long, the 1,430 mm wheelbase carries two adults and luggage with a stability the lighter sport-nakeds lack, and a claimed 40 kmpl from a 15-litre tank makes it the tour-value pick of the quarter-litre class. At a genuine 110-120 km/h cruise it is the quietest motorcycle here that is not twice its price.
The costs are weight and ambition. At 181 kg it is 13 kg heavier than the Duke 250 and it feels every one of them between corners — direction changes take effort, and the telescopic fork and twin-shock rear are comfortable rather than sharp. The faired SF version adds wind protection and a slightly faster top end in this listing. Buyers who ride two-up or far will call that maturity; buyers who ride hard will call it something else.
