Overview
The Interceptor 650 is the more useful half of Royal Enfield’s twin family. Same 648cc air-oil-cooled engine, same 47 bhp and 52 Nm, but with a straight bar, a long flat dual seat and 40 mm more wheelbase than the Continental — which turns out to be the exact difference between a motorcycle for oneself and one for a weekend with a passenger and luggage. The 1,455 mm wheelbase soaks up highway expansion joints the shorter GT reports.
The character suits touring better than the spec sheet suggests. The twin pulls from 3,000 rpm in top gear without protest, settles at 110-120 km/h and asks for 27 kmpl while doing so, which with the 16.2-litre tank means 400 km legs between fuel stops. The braking hardware matches the mass, and the assist slipper clutch makes the downhill downshifts the tour will eventually ask for.
The costs are weight and width. At 202 kg this is the heaviest roadster in this catalogue, it is wider through traffic than its retro siblings, and it is not a motorcycle that fakes agility — the bar needs to be leaned on rather than nudged. Buyers who want the twin’s character with a passenger and 200 km of it ahead get it here without compromise.
- 47 bhp and 52 Nm with a relaxed top-gear cruise
- 16.2-litre tank for genuine 400 km highway legs
- Flat dual seat and straight bar sized for two adults

Frequently asked questions
What is the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 price?
₹3.19 lakh to ₹3.27 lakh ex-showroom Delhi NCR in this sample listing, depending on finish and the Studio custom programme.
What mileage does the Interceptor 650 give?
The claim is 27 kmpl. Sample reports put mixed riding at 24-27 kmpl and a steady 90-100 km/h highway at 30 kmpl or better, with a 400 km range from the 16.2-litre tank.
Is the Interceptor 650 good for long tours with a pillion?
It is the touring argument in this catalogue: a flat two-person seat, upright bar and a twin that holds 110 km/h in sixth without complaint. Add the accessory screen and luggage and the case is complete.
