The RTR 160 4V occupies the awkward middle of the market — too expensive to be a pure commuter, too soft to be a sports bike — and it resolves that tension by being unusually good at neither job being done badly. The 159cc four-valve engine pulls willingly from 4,000 rpm, returns mileage that a 125 would struggle to beat, and is smooth enough that vibration never becomes a complaint below 100 km/h.
Equipment is where it outguns the segment. Ride modes borrowed from the RTR 310 soften throttle response for rain and sharpen it for back roads, and the Bluetooth console mirrors navigation, shows call alerts and logs lean angle on a motorcycle that costs less than many 125cc rivals. The brakes are well modulated and the ABS is unobtrusive, which is more than the price suggests.
Where it gives ground is chassis ambition. The fork is a plain telescopic unit rather than the upside-down fitting on the 310, the rear shock is compliant but lacks adjustment, and the extra weight over a 125 is felt when the bike is dropped into a tight U-turn. As a first motorcycle for someone who also wants a weekend back-road run, it is the most complete argument at this price.
