Overview

The Z1000 is Kawasaki’s litre-class naked four: 1,043 cc, liquid-cooled, four valves per cylinder, in a six-speed gearbox driving a 17-inch rear wheel through a chain. Kawasaki Motorcycles South Asia introduced it in India in December 2013 at a price reported at the time as ₹12,50,000 ex-showroom, and revised it for the model year that reached showrooms in April 2017 at a price reported at ₹14.49 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. That April 2017 figure is what this record prices.

The specification below is drawn from Kawasaki’s material for the same generation outside India, where its figures are 104.5 kW (142 PS, printed here as 140 bhp) at 10,000 rpm and 111 Nm at 7,300 rpm, with a kerb mass of 221 kg, an 815 mm saddle, a 1,435 mm wheelbase, a 17-litre tank and overall dimensions of 2,045 x 790 x 1,055 mm. MotoSutra has not read those figures out of a Kawasaki India document, and does not present them as India-homologated numbers; Kawasaki’s own India material from 2014 put the power peak at 11,000 rpm rather than 10,000, and that conflict is unresolved here.

What this record leaves out matters as much as what it carries. There is no top speed, no mileage figure and no acceleration number, because MotoSutra holds none and is not going to derive one. The suspension, brake and tyre specifications are absent too, for the same reason — no readable document named them for this market, and the specification table drops a row whose value it does not have. The catalogue lists the motorcycle as discontinued because Kawasaki India’s Z1000 model page now returns a 404 and the model is not in its current line-up; that is a statement about what this desk could reach, not a Kawasaki announcement, which is why no discontinuation date appears in this record.

MotoSutra did publish a Z1000 page before, and it survives in the Internet Archive: “Kawasaki Z1000 2021 Price, Specs, Review, Top Speed”, published on www.motosutra.in on 15 May 2021 and readable from the capture made that same day. It was a model-year roundup of the all-black 2021 paint scheme for a bike Kawasaki had announced in markets outside India, not a road test, and its headline figures — 1,043 cc, 140 bhp at 10,000 rpm, 111 Nm at 7,300 rpm, 221 kg, an 815 mm saddle, a 1,435 mm wheelbase, a 17-litre tank and a 2,045 x 790 x 1,055 mm body — match the table above for one reason: both trace back to Kawasaki’s own material for this generation, so their agreement is not a second source. The hardware it transcribed there is quoted rather than adopted: a 41 mm inverted front fork, a horizontal linkage rear shock, 310 mm front and 250 mm rear petal discs and 120/70 ZR17 and 190/50 ZR17 tyres. MotoSutra has not read those out of a Kawasaki document in this build, so they stay out of the specification table, and the same transcription disagrees with itself on the front disc, naming 320 mm in its prose.

Three claims on that archived page are deliberately not carried here. It stated a mileage of “13 to 16 km per liter”, quoted the Z1000 at US$10,100 and the R Edition at US$10,500 — American prices for a motorcycle this record prices in rupees — and asserted that the bike misses Kawasaki’s traction control and any cornering ABS. The first two name no document at all, which is why this page publishes neither. The third is the reason the safety row lists dual-channel anti-lock brakes as the only rider aid stated for this model and says openly that the traction-control question is unsettled: MotoSutra has read no Kawasaki India document that either confirms or denies the fitment.
