Official Renault India — New Duster price page (opens in a new tab) The page states “multiple variants with prices(ex-showroom)” and lists the seventeen petrol trims verbatim, from Authentic TCe 100 at ₹1049000 to Iconic TCe 160 DCT Dualtone at ₹1869000, and separately answers that dual-tone paint costs ₹20,000 more. It carries no hybrid trim ladder: the same page’s FAQ still says the hybrid is expected around Diwali 2026 with pricing to follow, which is why the hybrid rungs below are not sourced to this document. The petrol ladder — seventeen trims from ₹10,49,000 to ₹18,69,000 ex-showroom — is read from Renault India’s own Duster price page on 20 October 2026. The three strong hybrid trims above it are taken from launch coverage, because the same Renault page still answers its own FAQ by saying the hybrid is “expected to be launched around Diwali 2026” with pricing to follow: the price page has not caught up with the hybrid’s October 2026 launch. So the hybrid rungs here are reported figures, not a Renault document, and the top of the band is the report of the Emotion trim.

ARAI Renault India — Duster strong hybrid E-Tech 160 (opens in a new tab) The figure is Renault’s, and so is the qualification printed against it on the same page: “as certified by Test Agency Under Rule 115 (G) of Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989”. The 1,400+ km range that sits beside it is qualified separately as an urban-conditions comparison against a petrol engine.Fuel tank
50 litres
Reported CarWale — Renault Duster Emotion specification listing (opens in a new tab) Renault’s Duster pages state no tank capacity, so the 50 L figure carried here comes from a listing site rather than the manufacturer. It matters because it is the multiplier in any range calculation: 50 L at the claimed 29 kmpl is 1,450 km, which is the shape of Renault’s 1,400+ km claim.Fuel economy varies with traffic, speed, load, road conditions and maintenance. A published figure is not a promise of real-world consumption.

PS is not bhp: 160 PS is 157.8 bhp, and the numeric power column on this record carries that converted 158 rather than relabelling the manufacturer’s figure. Every prose statement of output on this page and in the launch article uses Renault’s own 160 PS.

What to know about the Duster
The Duster returned to India as a five-seater with two turbocharged petrol engines, and added a third powertrain in October 2026: the E-Tech 160 strong hybrid. The naming is the first thing to get straight, because Renault sells a TCe 160 and an E-Tech 160 in the same price list and they are not the same engine. The TCe 160 is a 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbo with 163 PS and 280 Nm, available with a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch. The E-Tech 160 is a 1.8-litre petrol working with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery through a multi-mode hybrid transmission, and Renault states its combined output as 160 PS.
What the hybrid is for is stated on Renault’s own page: up to 80 per cent of city driving time spent running as an electric vehicle, a claimed 29 kmpl, and a range figure of 1,400-plus kilometres. Those three sentences carry different qualifications, and they are worth reading in order. The 29 kmpl is certified by a test agency under Rule 115(G) of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. The 80 per cent is described in Renault’s own footnote as the result of in-house tests depicting share of travel time. The 1,400-plus kilometres is stated for urban conditions and expressed as a comparison against a petrol engine, not as a measured distance.
The pack is small on purpose. At 1.4 kWh it is not a plug-in and there is no charging point anywhere on the car; the engine and the brakes keep it topped up, and the benefit shows as fuel saved rather than kilometres driven on electricity. What this record does not carry: a driven figure of any kind, a boot capacity specific to the hybrid, or a crash-test rating that names a hybrid variant.
- A self-charging strong hybrid: 1.8-litre petrol, two electric motors, 1.4 kWh battery, no plug
- Claimed 29 kmpl, certified by a test agency under Rule 115(G)
- Six airbags and 212 mm of ground clearance stated as standard on the hybrid
- Hybrid trims begin at ₹16.99 lakh ex-showroom in this listing, against ₹10.49 lakh for the model

Pros and cons
What we like
- A self-charging strong hybrid with no plug, no charging routine and a 1.4 kWh pack topped up by the engine and the brakes
- The claimed 29 kmpl is the figure Renault leads on, and the whole case for the hybrid premium is efficiency rather than performance
- Six airbags, 212 mm of ground clearance and a panoramic sunroof are stated as standard equipment on the hybrid
What we would change
- The crash rating published for this Duster names petrol variants only, so the hybrid carries no score of its own on the record
- The hybrid ladder starts at ₹16.99 lakh, where the model itself starts at ₹10.49 lakh in this listing
- No boot capacity is published for the hybrid, and the numbers in circulation for this car disagree by more than a suitcase
Who should consider the Duster?
Potentially a fit for
- Drivers whose year is mostly city and suburban traffic, which is where a strong hybrid is worth its premium
- Buyers who want hybrid economy with no charging point and no charging routine
- Anyone cross-shopping the segment’s other strong hybrids on claimed efficiency rather than on badge
Check before deciding
- The Bharat NCAP assessment published for the Duster names petrol variants only, so the hybrid carries no crash score of its own on the record
- Renault publishes no boot figure specific to the hybrid, and the third-party listings disagree with each other and with the manufacturer
- The claimed 29 kmpl is a test-agency figure and nothing on this page has been driven
- The hybrid starts where the top petrol trims sit, so the payback case rests on annual distance driven

Renault Duster E-Tech strong hybrid launched at ₹16.99 lakh: what 29 kmpl really means
Renault has priced the Duster E-Tech strong hybrid from ₹16.99 lakh ex-showroom, claiming 29 kmpl and 1,400+ km. What those figures are measured under, and what survives real traffic.
Frequently asked questions
What does the Renault Duster strong hybrid cost?
Launch coverage prices the three hybrid trims at ₹16.99 lakh for Evolution, ₹18.99 lakh for Techno and ₹19.49 lakh for Emotion, ex-showroom. Renault’s own price page states the hybrid from ₹16,99,000 but has not yet published the trim ladder, so the upper two rungs are reported figures rather than a manufacturer document.
Does the Duster hybrid need to be plugged in?
No. It is a self-charging strong hybrid: a 1.4 kWh battery that the petrol engine and the brakes keep topped up, with no charging point on the car and no charging dependency for the owner.
What mileage does the Duster hybrid actually give?
The certified figure is 29 kmpl, measured by a test agency under Rule 115(G) of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, which is an ideal-condition number. MotoSutra has not driven the car and publishes no measured figure for it; the guide to how a hybrid works sets out where a claim like this survives Indian traffic and where it does not.
Is the Renault Duster a seven-seater?
No. This generation is a five-seater with two rows, which is what Renault’s own page for the hybrid says and what the Bharat NCAP test record describes.
How safe is the Duster hybrid?
Renault states six airbags as standard on the hybrid. Bharat NCAP published 30.49 of 32.00 adult points and 45.00 of 49.00 child points for the Duster, but its applicability table names only the 1.0L and 1.3L turbo petrol variants and no hybrid, so there is no crash score on record for the hybrid itself.
