Overview
The Rizta is Ather’s admission that most Indian scooters carry more than one person. The saddle is long, flat and hinged so that the pillion has something to sit on, the footboard is wide enough for a passenger to place both feet rather than straddle, and the front of the bodywork opens into storage that takes a full-face helmet — the practical details that separate a family scooter from a sporty one priced within ₹30,000 of it.
The drivetrain is deliberately detuned against the 450X. 22 Nm still arrives instantly, so the scooter feels eager from a standstill and never sounds strained, but the 80 km/h ceiling means the rider is planning an overtake rather than executing one on a fast stretch. The longer range figure is a function of that lower peak demand as much as of the battery, and in a weekly recharge pattern it is the more useful trade.
What is given up is the sharpness that made the marque’s reputation. The chassis is softer than the 450X over broken surfaces, the plastic bodywork reports its age over expansion joints, and the front disc and the better braking package are reserved for the upper trim. As a replacement for a petrol family scooter it is a persuasive argument; as a machine to enjoy riding it is a diluted one.
